(UPDATED) Pipeline vandalism: Emergency team on alert as residents cry over fuel spillage in Ayobo ON JULY 2, 20202:34 PMIN NEWS Kindly Share This Story:FacebookTwitterEmailWhatsAppPinterestShare By Olasunkanmi Akoni Men of the Lagos State Fire Service and State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, have been deployed to Ayobo, Ipaja area of the state to prevent a possible outbreak of fire following the alarm raised by residents over spillage of substance suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly called petrol from a vandalised pipeline of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC in the area. Residents had on Thursday, raised the alarm via the social media, claiming that contents from the leaking pipelines have spilt to nearby communities including Oju Emi, Ola mummy, Aboru, Agbado Oke-Odo. One of the residents, who identified himself as Oluwafemi Adaba-Zioni, in a video clip via Twitter, called on the state government and other stakeholders to deploy necessary apparatus to prevent possible fire outbreak. ALSO READ: Nigeria records 790 new highest daily figure of COVID-19 cases In a swift reaction, men of the Lagos Fire Service as well as LASEMA, raced to the scene are at Pipeline Road, Ayobo, Ipaja to prevent any possible disaster outbreak. The Acting Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye who confirmed the incident, assured that adequate measures had been taken to secure the entire area against any form of fire disaster. Adeseye, explained that preliminary reports carried out by the agency showed that the leakage occurred in NNPC pipeline conveying PMS at Ipaja at about 0904hrs. While assuring Lagosians that possible danger would be averted as the situation is under control, she added that the NNPC company were contacted and immediately shut down the line pending the arrival of engineers to site to make necessary repairs. “I hereby, assure Lagosians to go about their normal business as danger would be averted as the situation is under control,” Adeseye stated.
