Information at Vanguard’s disposal revealed that the suspect, Eke Kanu, sent his wife packing following a misunderstanding between them. Two of her siblings: a boy and a girl, also left with their mother, leaving only the victim, who is the second child with him. The Senior Secondary School Student stated that “ my daddy started it last year. Every time he did it, he would warn me never to tell anybody, that he would deal with me if I did. “ During the lockdown, I discovered I was no longer menstruating and I told my father. She gave me some drugs and injections”, she stated. Vanguard gathered that a resident who got wind of the abortion, contacted the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, which consequently reported the matter to the Police. Consequently, Kanu and the auxiliary nurse were arrested. The survivor, according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Elkana Bala, “ was taken to Mirabel Center for medical attention and forensic examination. Her father was taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution”. But the auxiliary nurse, as gathered, would be perfecting her bail condition in court. By Olasunkanmi Akoni Lagos State Government has postponed entrance exams into secondary schools indefinitely. Lagos, through its State Examinations Board, LSEB, postponed, indefinitely, 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, into its Junior Secondary Schools in the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The examination was earlier scheduled for June 16 to 23, 2020. Director, LSEB, Mr. Supo Gbadegesin, who announced this on Monday, explained that the directive affected both public and private schools. Onitiri, who spoke yesterday in Lagos, expressed sadness that the politicians had forgotten so soon the sacrifice and message of June 12, which the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola struggled and died for, adding that currently, there is no democratic government in Nigeria. Also, a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, said immortalising Abiola was not enough, saying that the last 21 years in the nation’s return to democratic rule have been full of sorrow and tears. Falana, who spoke during a live radio programme in Ibadan, urged true patriots in the country to intensify the struggle for genuine democracy. He said: “One of the policies carried out by the Buhari administration is the recognition of June as a public holiday and replacement of Democracy Day which was originally May 29. Those who set May 29 as a Democracy Day did so out of spite. “For eight years, Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration refused to recognise the supreme sacrifice paid by Abiola in the restoration of democracy in Nigeria. It was very good on the part of this administration to have recognised that day. “But it is not enough to immortalise MKO. It is not enough to recognise June 12 as a Democracy Day. The last 21 years have been civil rule of disenchantment and frustration on the part of the majority of Nigerians.
