ONDO ELECTIONS: I’m not interested in politics – Olakunle Churchill ON JULY 2, 202010:06 PMIN NEWS Kindly Share This Story:FacebookTwitterEmailWhatsAppPinterestShare … Commends group As the primary elections in Ondo state draws close, a socio-political youth group has commenced a clarion call, seeking Dr. Olakunle Churchill as the most qualified candidate for the 2020 Ondo State Governorship elections. Though, Churchill in a statement few hours ago commended the vibrant and proactive campaign of Ondo state Youths, but stated clearly his disinterest in such political ambition, as he reaffirmed his support for the government in power. The youth had in their campaign hailed and applauded Dr. Churchill, the MD/CEO of Churchill Group and a reputable philanthropist in Nigeria, for role his series of support programs targeted at youth empowerment and poverty alleviation in Ondo state. According to reports the campaign for Dr. Churchill as the next Governor of Ondo state was premised on his recent “Say No To hunger Campaign” in Ondo state, which has assisted several households, communities and individuals in the state. Some of the highlights includes his educational scholarship programs to support underprivileged children in accessing good and standard education, as well as the series on empowerment initiatives through skill program and talent talent development, especially in areas of sports. In a reaction from an Executive Member of Ondo State Youth, he described the support for Dr. Olakunle Churchill as one that cannot be stopped but though can be suspended. He maintained that though their proposed candidate wasn’t aware and may not be ready for such political ambition at the moment, the youths had already out of his overwhelming impact and benevolent gestures kicked-off his campaign. Contrariwise, Dr. Olakunle announced his uninterest but assured them of his continued support toward youth, women and child development in Ondo state. Lagos, through its State Examinations Board, LSEB, postponed, indefinitely, 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, into its Junior Secondary Schools in the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The examination was earlier scheduled for June 16 to 23, 2020. Director, LSEB, Mr. Supo Gbadegesin, who announced this on Monday, explained that the directive affected both public and private schools. In a related vein, a political activist/social critic, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, has called for sober reflection and rebirth by political players, leaders and appointees across the country. Onitiri, who spoke yesterday in Lagos, expressed sadness that the politicians had forgotten so soon the sacrifice and message of June 12, which the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola struggled and died for, adding that currently, there is no democratic government in Nigeria. Also, a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, said immortalising Abiola was not enough, saying that the last 21 years in the nation’s return to democratic rule have been full of sorrow and tears. Falana, who spoke during a live radio programme in Ibadan, urged true patriots in the country to intensify the struggle for genuine democracy. He said: “One of the policies carried out by the Buhari administration is the recognition of June as a public holiday and replacement of Democracy Day which was originally May 29. Those who set May 29 as a Democracy Day did so out of spite. “For eight years, Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration refused to recognise the supreme sacrifice paid by Abiola in the restoration of democracy in Nigeria. It was very good on the part of this administration to have recognised that day. “But it is not enough to immortalise MKO. It is not enough to recognise June 12 as a Democracy Day. The last 21 years have been civil rule of disenchantment and frustration on the part of the majority of Nigerians.
